Carole started school again on Monday. This is her 28th year as a classroom teacher and her 12th at her current school in Annapolis. She is good at what she does and the boys and I are very proud of her. A recent hire at her school, an assistant coach, told her the other day that the best teachers were the ones who had taught five years or less. They were "fresher". The steam was still pouring out of her ears when she came home that day. Carole told the young man that he obviously needed to return to school himself if he didn't value classroom teaching experience. In other words, he hadn't been a teacher long enough to make such a statement. I suspect he was attempting to make his own lack of experience into a badge of honor. She didn't buy his idea. I hope all of our students and teachers enjoy the coming year and all of us can learn a few new things.
